ARTS COUNCIL AND BUCKS COUNCIL FUNDING SEMINAR
"A Passion for Arts" Thursday 28 January 2010
The event was very well-attended with over 35 delegates, plus the speakers. We were very ambitious, especially for our first event of its kind, and the day was a huge success.
The speakers were James McVeigh of the Arts Council South East, Chris Bond Arts Officer for South Bucks District Council, Vicky Hope-Walker Arts Consultant, Mike Watson of Creative Bucks, and Alistair Will of Outdoor Culture helped facilitate.
The main message from James was that grants cannot be awarded unless people apply! Only £17,000 was awarded last year, and of that one member present had received £7,000! 47% of applications are successful. If you have an idea for a project - TALK TO SOMEONE ABOUT IT BEFORE APPLYING. Applications for up to £10,000 can be made online at www.artscouncil.org.uk. Below is a selection of quotes from the attendees on the day.
"It was very useful - both for ideas & for contacts, and I always find those kind of days a good chance to be a bit more visionary than I can normally aspire to on a day-to-day basis!"
Trisha, VIG and Obsidian Art
"I found a lot of the information very useful, particularly when speaking to the Arts Council representative who advised me about setting up a group to work on a big project. Every little piece of information gathered helps me move forward to where I want to be with future art projects."
Melanie Watts
"I would really welcome a further event with more unstructured time for networking."
Alistair Will, Outdoor Culture
