Description:
The Wycombe Society for the Performing Arts
Wyspas is a registered charity which performs musicals, drama, and musical theatre in and around High Wycombe. We are a group of dedicated individuals of all ages, committed to producing shows of the highest quality, whilst still maintaining a sense of fun! The society was created in 1940, initially formed to entertain local people during the war, and we have been going ever since.
We originally performed at the old High Wycombe Town Hall, and at school venues in the town, but in 1993 we were able to move to the Swan Theatre for an annual production. Although we have also used the refurbished Town Hall since then, other venues have included the Lancaster Arts Centre, The Spring Gardens Arts Centre, The Beacon Centre, The Royal British Legion and The Elgiva Theatre, Chesham.
Having just celebrated our diamond anniversary, we are regarded as one of the leading Southern England amateur groups.
With a performing membership of around 60, plus non-acting members and patrons, we have been nominated for the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA), awards for many of our shows, including Anything Goes (Best Chorus), 12 Angry Men (Best Drama), My Fair Lady (Best Chorus) and Man Of La Mancha (Best Chorus).
Rehearsals are held on Wednesdays (Chorus) and Fridays (Principals) in High Wycombe.
