Steph West

Subject:
Music > Folk & Traditional

Age Suitability:
For all age groups

Description:

Steph West plays the clarsach or celtic harp for concerts and festivals, and is available for weddings and events.

The origins of the celtic harp are amongst the oldest in the British Isles. It was heard throughout the courts of Ireland, Scotland and Wales until the 18th century. It is once again growing in popularity. This instrument combines the ethereal beauty of the early material with the vitality of modern folk music. The harp never loses its magical sound and magnetic appeal.

An English harper, singer and arranger, Steph is passionate about traditional British folk music. She explores the links between the clarsach (or Celtic) harp and English traditional music. She is creating a space for the harp in current English traditional music, and at the same time is increasing her range of Scottish and Irish tunes for the harp, bringing a bright Celtic sound to the Cotswold and Chiltern hills.

Steph plays with a variety of other musicians, as well as solo. For future gigs please see her website.

Steph also teaches harp to all abilities in Chorleywood and Oxford, whether just for fun or to study for music grades. She runs harp workshops for festivals and schools and can provide harps for the event.

Steph is part of Featherwood Instruments, makers of lightweight harps.
