Drawingroom (The)

Subject:
Fine Arts > Drawing

Age Suitability:
For all age groups

Description:
The Drawingroom dances with all of the senses; sight, sound, touch, smell and taste. As one approaches Francis Yard, the scent of an open fire greets you like a lost friend, a mix of apple, pine, cherry and oak. The sound of music, Elgar, Café del Mar, Nina Simone and Ella Fitzgerald, Bach, Beethoven, Jazz, Dance and Bangra to Buddhist chants, is mixed with birdsong twittering late into the night.

The Drawingroom is a gallery devoted to the human form with impressions and expressions by those who delight in capturing its poise, allure and sensuality. With over 200 works of art including paintings, drawings, bronzes and carvings, The Drawingroom offers everyone the opportunity to find examples to suit their taste.

The Basque Cafe situated within the gallery is open from 10.00 a.m.until 6.00 p.m 7 days a week
It offers you the opportunity to enjoy a range of quality coffees, teas, unusual soft drinks and home-made cakes. With tables on the cobbles and in each of the three gallery rooms The Basque Cafe provides the perfect environment to enjoy refreshments, good conversation and wonderful art. Can Café culture be more relaxed and sophisticated? The homemade cakes are baked here in Chesham; the coffee is from Lucia’s, the Hot Chocolate from Sophie’s Chocolates and the Chimeneas from En-Route. Finally, there is the Fineart; the only Gallery of its kind in the UK is here, in Chesham.

Regular exhibitors, each with their own perspective on the human form, are complemented by selections of the best of works by highly individual artists. There are three exhibitions planned each year together with two music festivals in May and September. Over 700 people attended these events in 2004. In 2005 there will be five events - of music, dance, theatre - and readings in theology and poetry. Loads!

To be on the invite list, you’ll need to call in and say ‘hi’ in person, or if you are connected with an existing Drawingroom guest, drop an email and say hello. From now on, it’s absolutely “by invitation only”.

Visit our Website for our Online Gallery which gives you a taste for what may be discovered beyond the cobbles that lead to the front door. Venturing across the threshold and into The Drawingroom's 16th Century surroundings will reveal so much more. Whether you are an avid collector or an occasional lover of the tantalizing curve, The Drawingroom invites you to escape and enjoy your time in peaceful surroundings.
