Description:
Piano Tuner / Technician
Member of the Piano Tuners Association
At the age of about 16 the combination of wanting to undertake something practical for a living, with the possession of a good ear for pitch and intonation, brought me to the idea of piano tuning. Another contributing factor was the need to tune my violin down to the level of the piano at home which was flat of concert pitch. I found this rather annoying!
Following an application to the London College of Furniture I studied there for three years. In 1992 I qualified with a Higher National Diploma in Piano Technology, and City and Guilds Parts I and II Certificates. I was lucky enough to be able to take over an existing business as soon as I left college. This meant moving to Amersham, and starting work almost immediately.
In 1996 I took the test to become a Member of the Piano Tuners' Association. There has to be a gap of at least three years after qualifying to show that you are able to maintain your standards. The test has three parts – tuning, repairs, and a viva voce, all of which I passed. I am therefore entitled to use the letters MPTA after my name.
The majority of my work is based in Amersham, Chesham and the surrounding areas. However, I also have clients in Surrey and South London.
If you have any questions or enquiries, or a piano that needs tuning and/or repairing, please telephone me on the number above, or email me at the address quoted.
