Amersham Concert Club

Subject:
Music > Classical

Age Suitability:
For all age groups

Description:

"World class musicians performing live, locally"

Amersham Concert Club was established in 1966. From the outset, the Club set out to put on recitals of the highest standard. The intention was to put together programmes encompassing a wide range of classical music. Well known and loved works from the classical repertoire may be combined in a single season with less familiar works or with music from the 16th and 17th centuries or the 20th. The musicians are encouraged to introduce their programmes and to talk about unusual pieces or instruments and many do so with great enthusiasm, knowledge and humour, bringing an extra level of enjoyment to their audience.

Every winter since 1966 the Club has organised at least five recitals of classical music; among the internationally known individuals and ensembles who have performed in Amersham are Dame Janet Baker, Peter Donohoe and John Lill, the Amadeus, Gabrielli, Chillingrian and Coull String Quartets and two BBC Young Musicians of the Year - Nicholas Daniels and Emma Johnson. The Club has a strong interest in promoting performances by young musicians just beginning their professional careers; many who come to the Club under the auspices of the Countess of Munster\'s Musical Trust or the Concert Promoters Network of Making Music, return again and again, by popular request, as established musicians.

The Club has also had a long-standing arrangement with the organisers of the Leeds International Piano Competition to offer an engagement to one of the finalists of the competition, an arrangement which has led to such outstanding young pianists as Leon McCawley, Ashley Vass and Katya Apekishava coming to Amersham.

It isn\'t necessary to become a member to enjoy the concerts - tickets are available to members of the public for all of the concerts. We are delighted to see children and young people at the concerts and make no charge for them. From time to time special children\'s concerts or workshops may also be arranged. Full details of the forth-coming 40th Anniversary season are available on our website.
